Dear Family Leaders,
A partner and close friend recently shared insights from his experience working with startups and their founders. He found that successful founders were those who aligned their interests with their roles and industries. On the other hand, a lack of genuine interest often signaled potential challenges ahead. As he put it, "I can work with anyone on almost any problem, but I can't do anything about a serious lack of interest."
Applying this concept to Family businesses, we have noticed that some Families intertwine legacy with their primary operating business. However, what if your children have no interest in contributing to the family business you painstakingly built?
I'm sure that to some, it is almost hurtful to think that your children would not want to help carry the business forward. After all, building a successful business is no small feat. To many of us, our companies are like children also.
We would like to offer a different perspective. Â
Our Vision
We believe that the "Family Business" is about the Family itself. When the next generation chooses to pursue their own interests instead of joining the existing family businesses, it opens up a unique opportunity to express the human and intellectual capital accumulated by the Family.
In our Family, we aim to share our wisdom and experience to guide them in their ventures and foster collaboration across generations. This allows our Family's legacy to extend beyond the identity of a single business, embracing each new generation's diverse and meaningful endeavors.
Financial capital becomes a tool to support the next generation as they explore their ideas, strategies, and opportunities. Our true success as a family lies in helping fulfill the next generation's passions and interests. Once a level of proficiency is achieved, we monetize it by putting financial capital behind them.
With each passing generation, new stewards will take the helm, and the methods of building financial capital will naturally evolve. We embrace change and support the interests of our new stewards while leveraging the expertise of family members from previous generations.
To achieve this, we foster an environment where open dialogue and support for individual ventures flourish for the benefit of the collective.Â
We encourage every Family member to share their aspirations, experiences, and ideas, creating a culture of collaboration and growth.
As we progress on this collective journey, we invite you, our readers, to share your experiences and insights. Let's learn from each other and continue building a legacy that values every generation's unique interests and contributions.
With warm regards,
The Founder
